Dr. Gates Merriman is a fellowship-trained Pain Management specialist. He obtained his MD from George Washington University before going on to complete residency training in Anesthesiology at the University of Illinois Chicago. Having been born and raised in Northeast Ohio, he returned to the area to complete his fellowship training in Pain Management at the Cleveland Clinic. He holds a BA in Philosophy from Boston College and completed his post-baccalaureate education at New York University.
Dr. Merriman takes a tailored approach to Pain Management, focusing on the individual patient's goals and quality of life improvements. He utilizes several modalities including fluoroscopic and ultrasound guided procedures, medication management, physical therapy, pain education, and advanced interventional procedures. He believes that effective medicine starts with a trusting patient-doctor relationship.
Dr. Merriman is a proud husband and father, and has been described as hopelessly optimistic regarding the Cleveland Browns. He enjoys the outdoors, golf, history books and podcasts, and attempting to grill the perfect steak.
